Margot Robbie has responded to the disappointment expressed by fans after the Barbie film received multiple Oscar nominations but did not include her in the Best Actress category. The actress, who is also a producer on the film, addressed the issue during a panel discussion held at a special screening of the film in Los Angeles.
Robbie expressed her gratitude for the film's eight Academy Award nominations and stated that she believes Greta Gerwig should have been nominated for Best Director, considering the exceptional work she did on the film. Robbie emphasized that Barbie is a film that is "bigger than us" and "bigger than our industry," and praised the impact it has had.
She also mentioned that the recognition the film has received is the greatest reward.
The nominees for Best Director include Justine Triet, Martin Scorsese, Christopher Nolan, Yorgos Lanthimos, and Jonathan Glazer. The Best Actress category nominees are Annette Bening, Lily Gladstone, Sandra Hüller, Carey Mulligan, and Emma Stone. Both Robbie and Gerwig have received support from other Barbie nominees, including Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera. The 96th Academy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will be held on March 10.
