In Game of Thrones, Shae was initially portrayed as a character who loved Tyrion Lannister. However, her loyalty eventually shifted when she was manipulated by Tywin Lannister. Shae served as Sansa Stark's handmaiden, which only deepened her paranoia and mistrust towards Tyrion. Tywin discovered the relationship between Tyrion and Shae, and to complicate matters further, he forced Tyrion to marry Sansa.

Despite lacking any romantic feelings for his new bride, Tyrion felt obligated to follow through with the arrangement. As Shae's betrayal became increasingly likely, Tyrion decided it was best to send her away and labeled her as a "whore" to ensure her departure.

Shortly after Shae left, Tyrion found himself on trial for the murder of Joffrey Baratheon.
