Bruno Mars recently made an announcement that Silk Sonic, the R&B duo consisting of himself and Anderson .Paak, will not be submitting their album "An Evening With Silk Sonic" for consideration at the 2023 Grammy Awards.
Mars shared this news with Rolling Stone, expressing his gratitude and stating that Silk Sonic would gracefully and humbly bow out, even adding a hint of humor by saying "most importantly, sexually" bow out of the awards submission.
Their lead single, "Leave the Door Open," released in April 2021, received four Grammy nominations in 2022 and won in all four categories, including Record of the Year and Single of the Year.
With their album released in November of the same year, industry insiders predicted it would be a strong contender for Album of the Year in 2023.
However, Mars emphasized that winning the world over with "Leave the Door Open" was already a significant achievement for them. He thanked the Grammys for allowing them to perform on the prestigious platform twice and for recognizing them at the previous year's ceremony.
The Recording Academy CEO, Harvey Mason Jr., also released a statement appreciating Silk Sonic's decision and looking forward to celebrating a remarkable year in music together.
As a duo, Mars and .Paak performed songs from their album at this year's Grammy Awards and a private afterparty where they covered popular hits. Other artists like Drake and The Weeknd have also declined nominations in the past due to dissatisfaction with the way the awards were conducted.
Ultimately, Grammy nominations for the 65th annual Grammy Awards will be announced on November 15th, with the awards ceremony taking place on February 5, 2023, in Los Angeles.
