Judd Apatow believes this is unfair. As the 96th Academy Awards draw near, the potential nominations are being decided behind the scenes. 

However, when it comes to the screenplay category, Margot Robbie and her team face a setback due to the genre they fall under for consideration.

Last week, Variety reported that "Barbie" would be classified as Best Adapted Screenplay rather than Best Original Screenplay because the characters already existed. This decision has received criticism from many who argue that the plot of "Barbie" is indeed original and not derived from any existing stories.
