"Barbie" is expected to make a significant impact at this year's Oscars, but there is one category where it might not receive the recognition it deserves for its script. Judd Apatow believes this is unfair. As the 96th Academy Awards draw near, the potential nominations are being decided behind the scenes. 

However, when it comes to the screenplay category, Margot Robbie and her team face a setback due to the genre they fall under for consideration. Last week, Variety reported that "Barbie" would be classified as Best Adapted Screenplay rather than Best Original Screenplay because the characters already existed.

This decision has received criticism from many who argue that the plot of "Barbie" is indeed original and not derived from any existing stories. 

Judd Apatow is among those who are outraged on behalf of the writers who created this unique screenplay. He expressed his view, stating, "It’s insulting to the writers to say they were working off of existing material. There was no existing material or story. There was a clear box." The disappointed response stems from the fact that being placed in the Adapted category puts "Barbie" up against tougher competition, including the likes of "Oppenheimer" and "Killers of the Flower Moon.

" As these films are considered frontrunners for numerous awards, many believe that "Barbie" will have a harder time securing a win. 

Given its significant cultural impact this year, many people would like to see "Barbie" receive recognition in as many ways as possible at the Oscars. "Barbie" seems to have met all the criteria for an Original Screenplay nomination, and its powerful lines have resonated with audiences.
