Margot Robbie has finally addressed her disappointment over not receiving an Oscar nomination for her role in "Barbie." Speaking at a special SAG-AFTRA screening of the film, the 33-year-old actress told the audience, "There's no way to feel sad when you know you're this blessed."
Fans were outraged when Greta Gerwig was not nominated for Best Director and Robbie was left out of the Best Actress category at this year's Oscar nominations. Robbie expressed her support for Gerwig, saying she believed Gerwig deserved the nomination because what she did was a once-in-a-lifetime achievement.
Despite her personal snub, Robbie congratulated the film on its eight nominations, including Best Picture. Robbie herself is listed as a producer on the film, which also received nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Song, Best Costume Design, and Best Production Design.
"Barbie" made history as the highest-grossing film directed by a woman, earning $1.4 billion worldwide. It was also Warner Bros. Pictures' most successful domestic release. Robbie emphasized the impact the film had on culture, stating, "We set out to do something that would shift culture, affect culture, just make some sort of impact.
And it's already done that ... way more than we ever dreamed it would. And that is truly the biggest reward that could come out of all of this."
Robbie's co-stars, including Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera, also expressed disappointment over the Oscars snubs. Ferrera praised Gerwig for creating a global phenomenon and felt it was disappointing not to see her nominated. Gosling, who received a nomination for Best Supporting Actor, acknowledged Robbie and Gerwig's contributions to the film, stating that no recognition would be possible without their talent and genius. He said, "To say that I'm disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement.
