Barbie’s I’m Just Ken and What Was I Made For have been nominated for Best Original Song at the 96th Academy Awards. The movie, directed by Greta Gerwig, received a total of eight nominations. Fans were excited to see Ryan Gosling perform the song at the Oscar ceremony, but recent reports suggest that he may not be wearing his Ken costume on stage.
Will Ryan Gosling Perform I’m Just Ken at The Oscars?
Barbie fans have been hoping to see Ryan Gosling perform I’m Just Ken at the upcoming Oscars, but there has been no confirmation yet.
In a recent interview with Variety, Mark Ronson, the producer of the Barbie soundtrack and co-writer of I’m Just Ken, expressed his enthusiasm for Gosling's potential performance. However, Gosling himself stated in an interview with W Magazine that he has not been invited to perform at the Oscars and has not thought about it until now. Ronson also mentioned that if Gosling does not perform, they will not have another singer replace him.
Ryan Gosling Was Disappointed At the Academy Awards
The omission of Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie from the Oscar nominations came as a surprise to Barbie fans.
Despite the movie's immense success, with over $1.3 billion in ticket sales, Gerwig and Robbie were not recognized for their respective categories. Gosling expressed his disappointment in a statement, stating that there is no Ken without Barbie and no 'Barbie' movie without Gerwig and Robbie. He praised their talent and called the snub an understatement. This disappointment could explain Gosling's decision to decline a potential performance at the Oscars.
The winners of the Academy Awards will be announced on March 11, 2024. Barbie is currently available for streaming on Max.
