Margot Robbie couldn't contain her laughter during a playful moment with her husband, Tom Ackerley, at the 2023 Gotham Film Awards in New York City. The couple was posing for photos alongside "Barbie" director Greta Gerwig, her husband Noah Baumbach, and Laura Dern in the press room. As they smiled for the cameras, Robbie giggled and seemed to push away Ackerley's hand, which appeared to be pinching her bottom. When asked by Page Six if he was indeed pinching her bum, Robbie burst into laughter without giving a definitive answer. Ackerley, when questioned separately, denied the accusation with a humorous gesture.
The couple, known for their privacy, met in 2013 and got married in a secret ceremony in Australia in 2016. They co-founded LuckyChap Entertainment, a production company, in 2014 and were co-producers of the film "Barbie." Robbie, who portrayed the iconic doll in the successful movie, has been incorporating various Barbie-inspired looks throughout the year. At the event, she paid homage to the 1964 Black Magic Barbie by donning a sleek black Prada dress, matching cape, and peep-toe heels.
During their speech at the awards show, Robbie and Gerwig entertained the audience with their banter.
Gerwig admitted that she was still surprised when Robbie responded to her text messages, to which Robbie playfully retorted, "Of course I text you back!" The pair spoke about how they wrote the "Barbie" script during the COVID-19 lockdown when no one was making or watching movies. Despite Robbie's initial doubts, she loved the script Gerwig wrote and thought it would never be greenlit. Gerwig also revealed that they had Ryan Gosling in mind for the role of Ken and embarked on a campaign to convince him to join the project.
Other notable celebrities in attendance at the star-studded event included Bradley Cooper, Robert DeNiro, Natalie Portman, Julianne Moore, Jeffrey Wright, and Colman Domingo.
