Ryan Reynolds, known for his role as Deadpool, accepted an award at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards in character. The award was for the sports documentary "Welcome to Wrexham," which follows Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's ownership of a football club. In his acceptance speech, Deadpool joked about Reynolds' wife, Blake Lively, and thanked the academy for the honor. He also teased that the Oscar should take note of the visual effects work done on his and Hugh Jackman's faces. "Welcome to Wrexham" won five Emmy Awards.
The acceptance speech came during the filming of "Deadpool 3," which will be the character's first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
The film is set to be released on July 26, 2024, and will also feature Jackman's return as Wolverine. It will be the first R-rated MCU film.
