Hey guys, Shaquille O'Neal just shared a super interesting video on Instagram where Michael Jordan is talking about how different the NBA is today compared to when he first entered the league back in 1984. Seriously, you need to check it out!
According to MJ, the game back then was way more physical than it is now. He says the players these days have no clue how tough it was for guys like him. You couldn't even walk across the lane without getting checked or dealing with illegal screens and holding. But hey, that was just part of the game. If you wanted to be aggressive, you had to be ready to take a few hard hits.
It's crazy to think about how rough and physical the game used to be. The "Bad Boy" Detroit Pistons, in particular, would give Jordan a hard time with their tough fouls. But you know what? It never stopped him! The man only suffered one major injury throughout his entire career. I mean, the players today would have a tough time dealing with what Jordan had to face.
What's even more interesting is that Jordan revealed why he never wanted to be a coach after retiring. He said the focus and mindset of today's athletes are so different from his own.
He doesn't think he could ask players to have the same level of dedication and focus that he had. I guess he just wouldn't have the patience for it.
Now, let's talk about Shaq. He hasn't been shy about criticizing today's players and the way the game is played. In fact, he says it would be a "slaughterhouse" if he were playing in today's NBA. Can you imagine?! The big guys from his time couldn't even stop him, so I doubt anyone today would have much luck either.
