John Stamos has expressed his support for the Barbie movie after its director Greta Gerwig and star Margot Robbie were snubbed by the Oscars. Stamos, 60, took to Instagram to share his thoughts, captioning a video of himself and his wife, Caitlin McHugh, recreating a scene from the film. In the video, McHugh, 37, played Barbie, while Stamos portrayed Ken.
Stamos emphasized the success of the movie, both critically and commercially, and noted the irony of the Academy overlooking Gerwig and Robbie. He encouraged everyone to watch the movie again in light of the snubs. Ryan Gosling, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actor, also expressed his disappointment that Gerwig and Robbie were not recognized for their work.
Gosling praised the two women for their talent and their contribution to the film.
Additionally, America Ferrera, who received a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her role in the movie, voiced her disappointment at Gerwig and Robbie's exclusion from the nominations. Ferrera commended Gerwig for her contribution to the film and expressed her disappointment at not seeing Gerwig on the list of nominees. Overall, Barbie received eight nominations at the Oscars, including Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Picture.
The film also received nominations for Costume Design, Production Design, and Best Original Song.
