The Barbie Dreamhouse has officially opened its doors, and actress Margot Robbie is giving us an exclusive tour! In a new video for Architectural Digest, Robbie showcases the extravagant home, just in time for the upcoming live-action Barbie film where she stars as the iconic doll.
Decked out in a light pink and blue checked cropped jacket, high-waisted miniskirt, and hat, Robbie takes us through the over-the-top Dreamhouse set. The luxurious abode features a pool, a bold pink kitchen, and even peekaboo views of Barbie's neighbors.
Stepping into Barbie's kitchen, we find a pink fridge and a round pink breakfast table.
Robbie humorously notes that while the kitchen may not be super practical, nothing is ordinary in Barbie's world. Moving on to her whimsical bedroom, we discover a giant seashell-shaped headboard, iridescent sequined bed covers, and an abundance of pink puffy cushions.
Greta Gerwig, the writer and director of the Barbie film, reveals the extensive efforts put into pink during the design process. Exploring various shades, Gerwig enthuses about the brightness that this color brings, reminiscent of her childhood desires.
Robbie shares her favorite design feature, a pink slide that connects Barbie's bedroom directly to the pool. However, it's worth noting that the pool is devoid of water, aligning with the "no elements" present in Barbie's house. Another highlight is Barbie's wardrobe, reminiscent of the plastic box the doll comes in, where new outfits magically appear each day.
To achieve the vibrant sets seen in the movie, Gerwig's team drew inspiration from the 1950s and early 1960s. The artificial backgrounds feature bold colors and lighting, adding a touch of expressionism. Gerwig aims to create an immersive experience, where viewers feel like they can reach out and touch everything on screen.
The Dreamhouse set left an impression on Ryan Gosling, who plays Ken in the film. Gosling expressed his excitement upon seeing the artistry, love, and playfulness that filled the environments, undoubtedly contributing to the success of the movie.
With the film set to debut on July 21, fans can expect to see even more surprises within Barbie's Dreamhouse. From pink monkey figurines to an array of wigs, and her iconic pink convertible seen floating down from her bedroom, Barbie's world is set to captivate audiences on the big screen.
Alongside Margot Robbie, the star-studded cast of Barbie includes America Ferrera, Michael Cera, Ariana Greenblatt, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, Ana Cruz Kayne, Emma Mackey, Hari Nef, Alexandra Shipp, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, Scott Evans, Jamie Demetriou, Connor Swindells, Sharon Rooney, Nicola Coughlan, Ritu Arya, and Dua Lipa.
