Ryan Reynolds is set to star in the upcoming action comedy film, Calamity Hustle, alongside Channing Tatum. Warner Bros. beat out Amazon and Netflix in a bidding war to secure the rights to the movie, with the plan of turning it into a franchise. The Nee brothers, Adam and Aaron, will direct the film, which is being compared to the classic action blockbuster, Lethal Weapon.
Calamity Hustle follows Reynolds' character, a police officer who has become estranged from his criminal brother, played by Tatum. When Tatum's character becomes implicated in a diamond heist, Reynolds' character must track him down and help the people affected by the robbery.
The film will be set during the holiday season and will be filmed in New York, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles.
Reynolds and Tatum will each receive $25 million for their roles in the movie, and the budget is reportedly around $140 million. Both actors will also serve as producers alongside the Nee brothers and Kevin J. Walsh.
This is the second major movie deal for Reynolds this week, as he recently confirmed a heist comedy film with Netflix. He is currently filming Deadpool 3 with director Shawn Levy, and Tatum is rumored to make a cameo as Gambit in the movie.
Tatum previously worked with the Nee brothers in The Lost City, and he is also set to appear in the upcoming space race movie, Project Artemis, alongside Scarlett Johansson and Woody Harrelson.
Reynolds, on the other hand, recently released the trailer for his upcoming film, IF, directed by John Krasinski.
No production timeline or release window has been announced for Calamity Hustle yet.
