Greta Gerwig's Barbie has emerged as one of the year's highest-grossing films, amassing a staggering $1.4 billion in ticket sales. The success can be attributed to the brilliant performances of Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, who portrayed Barbie and Ken respectively, as well as the enduring popularity of the franchise. However, it has now come to light that a few scenes didn't make the final cut because they didn't align with the story – one such scene involved a kiss between Barbie and Ken.

In a recent interview with People, Margot Robbie, who also served as a producer on the film, revealed why she decided against including a kissing scene with Ryan Gosling.

Despite being questioned by friends about the omission, Robbie felt that it didn't suit the narrative of their characters. Gosling, on the other hand, found the situation amusing and remarked how intriguing it was to ponder what a kiss would even look like for dolls like Barbie and Ken.

The decision to scrap the kissing scene was made early on in the production process, as the creators felt it wouldn't contribute meaningfully to the film. Barbie Land, they believed, should primarily focus on elements other than romance. A scene where Ken suggests spending the night at Barbie's house, with both characters remaining motionless, exemplifies their lack of emotional understanding.

Robbie also mentioned that the suggestion of a kissing scene was swiftly dismissed before filming commenced.

Apart from the omitted kissing scene, several other moments didn't make it into the final version, including cameos by Timothée Chalamet and Saoirse Ronan, as well as a joke involving Emma Mackey and Margot Robbie's resemblance.

The absence of romance in Barbie has sparked speculation among fans about why the character portrayed by Margot Robbie isn't attracted to Ken. The Mary Sue offers an explanation, suggesting that Barbie's lack of interest in Ken is rooted in how little girls play with their dolls and the way Barbie's design and marketing perpetuate this perspective.

For most children, Ken simply isn't as captivating as Barbie herself, with her fabulous outfits and career choices. Ken is seen more as an accessory when it comes to hosting Barbie weddings or sending her to dances.

Robbie further elaborated in another interview, highlighting her contemplation of the feelings she would experience as a doll lacking the anatomical features responsible for attraction. Ultimately, she concluded that it wouldn't make sense for the character to possess any form of sexual desire towards Ken.

In conclusion, while the decision to exclude a kissing scene between Barbie and Ken from the film disappointed some fans, it was a deliberate choice made by the film's creators to stay true to the essence of Barbie's world and the characters within it.
