Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) has attributed her decision to switch congressional districts to Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Barbra Streisand. In an interview on Steve Bannon's "War Room" podcast, Boebert accused the actors of attempting to "buy" her current district by donating to her Democratic opponent.
She claimed that nearly $10 million had been poured into the race and that the district was "not for sale." Boebert narrowly defeated her opponent, Adam Frisch, in the 2022 midterms but has been outraised by him since. She has repeatedly vowed not to allow "dark money" to "steal this seat" and has accused Hollywood of trying to buy their way into Congress.
Streisand donated $1,000 to Frisch's campaign in April, while Reynolds donated $500 in March. Boebert's decision to switch districts means she will not face a rematch with Frisch and will instead run for Rep. Ken Buck's (R-Colo.) seat, as he announced his plans not to seek reelection last year. The move opens up the GOP nomination for the state's 3rd Congressional District, potentially giving the Republican candidate a stronger chance against Frisch. However, Boebert's tenure has been marred by controversies, which have raised concerns about her ability to hold onto the seat.
