Jimmy Kimmel, the late-night television host, was initially hesitant about hosting the Oscars again but changed his mind after watching Greta Gerwig's film "Barbie." In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Kimmel admitted that he had not planned on hosting the prestigious award show again after his previous successful runs in 2017 and 2023.
However, a change of heart occurred after he watched "Top Gun: Maverick," starring Tom Cruise, and later, "Barbie," led by Margot Robbie. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences officially announced Kimmel's return to host the 2024 Oscars alongside his wife, Molly McNearney, who will be the executive producer for the show.
Despite facing backlash for not nominating Gerwig for Best Director and Robbie for Best Actress, the Academy expressed its excitement for Kimmel and McNearney's return. Kimmel, in a statement, humorously mentioned that he had always dreamt of hosting the Oscars four times. The award ceremony is scheduled for March 10 at the Dolby Theater in the Hollywood & Highland Centre in Los Angeles.
