Jimmy Kimmel, the late-night television host, was initially hesitant about hosting the Oscars again but changed his mind after watching Greta Gerwig's film "Barbie." In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Kimmel admitted that he had not planned on hosting the prestigious award show again after his previous successful runs in 2017 and 2023.

However, a change of heart occurred after he watched "Top Gun: Maverick," starring Tom Cruise, and later, "Barbie," led by Margot Robbie.

Despite facing backlash for not nominating Gerwig for Best Director and Robbie for Best Actress, the Academy expressed its excitement for Kimmel and McNearney's return.
