“There’s just no way”: Barbie Faces Backlash For 1 Scene That Looks More Like a Car Commercial Than a Billion-Dollar Film Sequence

The 2023 highest-grossing movie, "Barbie," has been on the lips of every moviegoer even before its release. The marketing was over-the-top, on-brand, and cleverly executed, creating much anticipation. Greta Gerwig, the director, did an incredible job, despite being overlooked by the Academy for a Best Director nomination. She ensured that every cast member perfectly portrayed their characters. Margot Robbie brought Barbie to life flawlessly, and Ryan Gosling nailed the role of Ken.

However, they were not the only impressive performances, as other actors, whether playing dolls or humans, also excelled.

Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera received Academy Award nominations for Best Actor and Actress in a Supporting Role, further highlighting the exceptional performances in the film. However, even in this seemingly flawless movie, there were some imperfect moments.

One particular sequence that stood out and felt out of place was the Chevrolet car scene, which was CGI-ed into the movie. The scene featured America Ferrera driving a Chevy Blazer EV SS to rescue Margot Robbie's Barbie. Many viewers thought it looked more like a car commercial than a scene within the movie.

The corniness and disparity of this scene with the rest of the film made it almost feel like it didn't belong.

Fans of the movie expressed disappointment in this scene, considering it unfitting. While ad placements in movies are not uncommon, this one, in particular, seemed out of sync. They speculated that director Greta Gerwig and cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto might not have had a hand in it. Rumors suggest that the scene was shot by the Second Unit of the movie. However, there is a possibility that Prieto, who has experience shooting car commercials, could have been involved in this sequence.

Overall, despite the questionable car commercial-like scene, "Barbie" has captured the attention of audiences and delivered exceptional performances. The movie is available for rent on Prime Video.
