Spanning from 2011 to 2019, the show revolves around nine noble families vying for control over Westeros and the coveted Iron Throne. While these complex characters have captured the hearts of audiences worldwide, Game of Thrones has also given birth to numerous universally despised characters.

Recently, a list shared on Twitter by @westerosies compiled the most hated TV characters of all time, and Game of Thrones characters dominated the top rankings.

With an impressive 178 thousand votes, Joffrey Baratheon secured the first-place spot, followed closely by Ramsay Bolton in second place. Cersei Lannister landed a respectable seventh place, solidifying the presence of three Game of Thrones characters in the top ten. Additionally, Petyr Baelish, also known as Littlefinger, and Roose Bolton claimed the 14th and 15th spots respectively.

These detestable characters, including Joffrey, Ramsay, Cersei, Littlefinger, and Roose, were first introduced and fully fleshed out in George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series. Adapting such villainous figures to the screen presented a significant challenge for the Game of Thrones production team.

Nonetheless, they succeeded in bringing these characters' wickedness to life.

For the roles of Joffrey and Ramsay, the show opted for relatively unknown actors, Jack Gleeson and Iwan Rheon, who delivered outstanding performances filled with cruelty, arrogance, and sadism. However, the nature of these characters proved to be a double-edged sword for these actors, as they struggled to find new roles in the industry following their portrayals of such reprehensible figures.

Joffrey's infamy was cemented early on in Game of Thrones when he shockingly beheaded the beloved protagonist, Ned Stark, marking one of the show's first major plot twists.

Subsequently, Ramsay took over as an even more heinous villain after Joffrey's demise in the fourth season. These characters never underwent any semblance of redemption before meeting their eventual fates, serving only to torment and provoke the morally complex protagonists of the show. Thus, Game of Thrones presents a bleak and intricate portrayal of humanity.
