The cast and director of the upcoming Wicked musical movies have expressed their gratitude and shared their experiences as production on the two-part adaptation comes to an end. Ariana Grande, who stars as Glinda the Good Witch, shared a sneak peek of her costume and thanked the cast and crew for creating a safe and inspiring environment. Cynthia Erivo, who plays Elphaba, shared a picture of herself defying gravity on a broomstick and described the film as the grandest gift she could ask for. Jonathan Bailey, who portrays Fiyero, simply captioned a photo of himself in costume with the words, "Danced on through.
" Director Jon M. Chu thanked the cast and crew for their support and praised the ambitious production. The film is a prequel to The Wizard of Oz and explores the journey of the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda from roommates to friends to enemies. Filming for the first part began in 2023 and was nearly complete when the SAG-AFTRA strike caused a pause. However, the release dates for both parts remain unchanged, with the first part scheduled for November 2024 and the second part for November 2025.
