Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage is throwing his support behind Margot Robbie's bid for an Oscar for her role in the 2023 film Barbie. Both Barbie and Oppenheimer have been hugely successful both commercially and critically, making them strong contenders for the 2024 Academy Awards. Cage recently expressed his admiration for Barbie and passionately endorsed Robbie, saying she is one of his favorite actresses and hoping she will win the Oscar this year. 

With Greta Gerwig's comedy film Barbie continuing to make headlines and receiving attention from Cage, it has become a highlight of the award season.

Robbie, a two-time Oscar nominee, is expected to be a strong contender for Best Actress at the 96th Academy Awards, and Cage's support adds an extra layer of encouragement. Barbie and Oppenheimer are anticipated to be frontrunners at the 2024 Academy Awards, with Oppenheimer recently winning five awards at the Golden Globes, including Best Film and Best Director.

Both films are also leading the nominations for the Screen Actors Guild Awards. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has revealed shortlists for the 2024 Oscars, with Barbie receiving the most mentions in various categories, and Oppenheimer shortlisted in three categories.

The official nominees for the 96th Academy Awards will be announced on January 23, 2024. Barbie is currently available to stream on Max, and Oppenheimer is available to rent or buy on Prime Video.
